Good practice on-page optimisation
SEO or Search Engine Optimisation is a bit of a buzzword used a lot throughout the last decade. During this time, several companies spring up offering SEO services which often ended badly with websites often being blacklisted or greylisted off Google and other popular search engines.
These days the continual change in search engine indexing algorithms often makes SEO a never ending battle, resulting in only companies with huge marketing budgets for SEO being able to pay agencies a lot of money in an attempt to keep up.
We’ve found over the last few years, less is often more, and applying a few common sense on-page optimisations to websites can often reap good results. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Page content – writing good content that supplies a demand and is linkable.
- Title tags – one of the most important, this is how your page titles will appear in search engines.
- Description tags – writing relevant content about what the page is about.
- URL structure – this ensures good internal linking and a sensible page hierarchy, and gives search engines some information about the structure of your site.
Pay Per Click (PPC) / Google AdWords
With a lot of companies frustrated with the amount of money they were spending on SEO, many turned to a great alternative; Pay Per Click or PPC. Google AdWords is the biggest and most popular platform for companies looking to make use of PPC.
Simply put, PPC allows companies to create adverts and bid for positions on websites, such as Google, above or beside the organic listings. Bids can range from as little as a few pence per click to several pounds.
